A little late but .... My Favorite Albums of 2008

These are just a few albums that stood out for me in 2008. Not a whole lot too it.

We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed - Los Campesinos!

Los Campesinos! is probably the most enjoyable indie band to hit the music scene in the past few years. Their songs are simply sensational, smart, and witty. Their unique style revolves around searing guitars, fervent drumming, and scathingly witty lyrics. This is an album that simply must be heard to understand, and it's something that virtually anybody should be able to get behind.

Saturdays=Youth - M83

This album brought back memories of what it was like to be a kid who grew up in the second half of the 1980's. I listened to this all summer and never tired of it. It's just fun music. This is my first M83 album and while I really like the 80's vibe, I'm pleased to see that they also have another side to them.

Listen: M83 - Kim & Jessie

Chunk of Change EP - Passion Pit

This is an excellent first attempt by Passion Pit. Wicked lo fi drum machine loops sitting in the background making room for the catchiest of percussion riffs and vocals that have so much depth. This is what pop music should sound like in my opinion. I feel like this is the kind of record Timbaland should be produceing, well if he still cared about music. As a matter of fact if I was Kid Cudi or some other dope rapper with that “highly bloggable” steez i’d be hitting up Passion Pit for tracks like NOW. Anyways you can’t go wrong with any song on this record Lo Fi pop GOLD.

Also lets go ahead and call Passion Pit as the next HUGE indie act in 09′.

Listen: Passion Pit - SleepyHead

Midnight Boom - The Kills

The Kills previous album was was OK, but this one is just awesome. It was recommended to me by someone who usually just listens to hip-hop so that intrigued me. Having own the previous album & liked it, i took a chance with this one. I'm glad I did. From the second I pressed play until the end was just pure enjoyment. It was like a Punk Rock dance the whole way through. The flawless combination of Fugazi-ish guitar riffs and drum machine beats is magnificent.

Listen: The Kills - Last Day Of Magic

Oracular Spectacular - MGMT

MGMT =Awesome. I don't even know what to say about this album. It's just trance educing. You just can't go wrong.

Listen: MGMT - Time To Pretend

Santogold - Santogold

This album combines dub, pop punk, hip hop, electro, and rock all in one album and doesn't conform to any one sound. Santogold's sound is refreshing and I'm glad I read that article in Rolling Stones in late '07, otherwise I wouldn't have heard of her a soon as I did. And is it just me or is Beyonce's Diva video a rip off of Santogold's Creator Video ... hhhmmmm

Listen: Santogold - L.E.S. Artistes
